Faith Formation

Under the guidance of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, we seek to nuture the spiritual and emotional development of our students by providing a strong foundation in the Catholic faith. At Jesus the Good Shepherd School, our faith is evident throughout our school campus, our curriculum and the opportunites provided to our students to further their relationship with Christ. Catholic identity is more than just attending a Catholic school. It is the underlying belief that permeates every aspect of a Jesus the Good Shepherd School experience. 

Our students' faith lives include: 

• Religious instruction in all grade levels through Sadlier and Benzinger religious curriculum. (Daycare through 6th grade)
• Weekly Mass for PreK 3 through 6th grade students.
  • Students serve at school Mass as readers, gift bearers, altar servers and choir leaders.
• Organized prayer daily, each morning and afternoon and before and after lunch. 
• Reconciliation is offered during the seasons of Advent and Lent. (3rd through 6th grade)
• First reconcilation and First Holy Communion sacramental preparation during 2nd grade year.
• Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is offered monthly. (2nd grade through 6th grade)
• Assessment of Children Religious Education (ACRE) testing annually for 5th grade students to evaluate catechetical/religous knowledge. 

JGS students participate in multiple annual religious and charitable activities, along with many long-standing JGS traditions, including:

• Blessing of the school and classrooms at the start of the new school year. 
• Living Stations of the Cross performed by the JGS 5th and 6th grade. (School and public performances)
• Students bring flowers to place at Mary's feet for May Crowning of the Blessed Mother.
• Students participate in All Saints' Day Mass by learning about and dressing-up as their favorite Saint. 
• JGS School participates in the Catholic Schools Week celebration each year in January/February with Mass, appreciation events and charitiable activities to raise money for programs such a the North Louisiana Food Bank or Life Choices. 
• Students participate in the Stations of the Cross during lent in JGS Church. (1st through 6th grade)
• Students make projects each year for the St. Vincent de Paul auction to help raise money for this wonderful organization.
