Memorial Awards

The Charlynn Leehy Memorial Award was established in 2018 in honor of beloved 3^rd grade teacher, Mrs. Charlynn Leehy. Charlynn was a caring and kind person who exemplified enthusiasm for life and a love for her school, students and family. She left an abundance of love and a little “glitter” everywhere she went. The $1,000 award is given to a 3^rd grade student who exhibits friendliness and enthusiasm for life along with a love of JGS School.

Donations to the Charlynn Leehy Memorial Award will advance the commitment and passion that Charlynn brought to JGS School for a deserving student. Donors will receive a tax-deductible donation receipt and an acknowledgement will be sent to the Leehy family in honor of their memorial contribution.

CONTRIBUTION FORM

The Sr. Maria Smith Memorial Award was established in honor of long-time Jesus the Good Shepherd School principal and Daughter of the Cross, Sr. Maria Smith. Sr. Maria professed her final vows in August of 1960 and from that day forward was affiliated with Jesus the Good Shepherd School. Sr. Maria served as principal of JGS from 1980-1997. Her mission as a Daughter of the Cross was to educate in order to save souls and her presence will forever flourish in the mission of Jesus the Good Shepherd School.

This award will be given at the end-of-the-year Honors Assembly to an outstanding, Catholic 5th grade student who exhibits high moral and spiritual character. The award is for one month's tuition for the coming school year in the amount of $500. 

Donations to the Sr Maria Smith Memorial Award will advance the moral and spiritual commitment that Sr. Maria and the Daughters of the Cross brought to JGS School for a deserving student. Donors will receive a tax-deductible donation receipt and an acknowledgement will be sent to the Smith family in honor of their memorial contribution.

Contribution Form

The Janet Moore Memorial Award was established in 2023 in honor of long-time Jesus the Good Shepherd School teacher and faithful servant of Jesus the Good Shepherd Church, Mrs. Janet Moore. When describing Mrs. Janet Moore, one might use the words genuine, respectful, reverent, ultimately personable and a wonderful conversationalist. She was full of life and wisdom and a wonderful storyteller of all things New Orleans. Janet dedicated much of her life to JGS School and Church. She was a devoted teacher at JGS School for almost 20 years, a founding sponsor and teacher of R.C.I.A. at JGS Church, organizer and narrator of the Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Sanctuary Society volunteer. Janet was a truly loyal JGS supporter in every way. Her legacy at JGS will live on in the memory of her students, friends, coworkers, and fellow parishioners.

This award will be given at the end-of-the-year Honors Assembly to a 2^nd grade student who exhibits outstanding Christian character and citizenship and has excelled in their moral and spiritual growth. The award is in the amount of $2,500.

Donations to the Janet Moore Memorial Award will advance the love and dedication of the Catholic Church and school that Mrs. Janet Moore exemplified for a deserving student. Donors will receive a tax-deductible donation receipt and an acknowledgement will be sent to the Moore family in honor of their memorial contribution.
